Rapid Gender Analysis during COVID-19 Pandemic

A joint CARE, UNICEF, UN Women gender data and analysis report on the impact of COVID-19 in the Mekong Subregion
As with other emergencies, the COVID-19 situation exacerbates existing gender inequalities and disproportionately impact women and girls. This rapid gender analysis utilises primary and secondary data to develop a better understanding of how COVID-19 are affecting women, men, boys and girls differently in Cambodia, Lao PDR, Viet Nam, Myanmar and Thailand. Particular attention is paid to the impacts on at-risk populations, including informal workers, migrant workers, garment factory workers, ethnic minorities, and people with disabilities. Key gender issues identified include increases in unpaid care work; imbalances in decision-making power; protection issues, such as surges in gender-based violence; discriminatory access to services, including information, education and sexual and reproductive health services; disproportionate financial impact; and disparities in psychosocial stressors.
