On 20 November 1989, at the United Nations Headquarters, Under-Secretary-General for Human Rights Jan Martenson, UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Audrey Hepburn and UNICEF Executive-Director James Grant celebrate the UN General Assembly adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC).
The CRC, the first legally binding code of child rights, turns 25 in 2014. Its four guiding principles are non-discrimination, best interest of the child, survival and development, and respect for the views of the child.
