Anya, 8, sits for a portrait taken by photographer Andrey Krepkih in Ukraine in 2014. Due to the ongoing conflict, Anya, fled her hometown of Bryanka in July and now lives in an accommodation centre in Kyiv. Her mother and younger brother and sister, who were unable to get out, remained behind.
“I was very scared. They were shooting and bombing,” she said. “This is why mom sent me here, but I miss my sister and brother. They are much younger than me. I must protect them.”
The centre is hosting some 40 displaced children from conflict-affected areas.
